Creativity Rules – 2019 Tools to Invest in You

Anastasia Muñoz, AMOC Artistic Director

Happy New Year! The creative energy from 2018 is already overflowing into our plans for you, the community of artists and Dallas art lovers, to enjoy Arts Mission Oak Cliff in 2019. And if you’re new here, there are loads of surprises for you inside these sacred, restored Oak Cliff walls! Whether you join us for an art class, an entrepreneurial workshop or a live performance, our team of Creatives and visiting artists can’t wait to see you, meet and mingle and help energize you creatively in 2019. In short, our intention is set:  we exist to support creative living in its many forms. AMOC is here to help make 2019 YOUR year!

Foremost, Arts Mission is a creative sanctuary where we hope you see yourself building something great.

One of the things we love most about being a steward for creative living is working out of our restored church from the 1920s. To give it new life, we’ve thoughtfully made over every part of our space to be a blank canvas that serves as both a backdrop for developing artistic works and for supporting creative entrepreneurs who want to blossom. It’s a very purposeful space, meant to support the arts and artists, helping them to grow through access to creative space, coaching and mentorship.

Think “WeWork,” but for artists.

When people visit for the first time, they can’t help but tell us how welcoming and energizing it feels to take a tour. And reading this, I hope you will consider stopping by, whether you’re a curious Oak Cliff dweller or one of Dallas’ many creative freelancers looking for your tribe. If you find our space inspiring (and we truly hope you do!) you’ll see it’s been designed to serve as a creative second home and a source of community where likeminded art-lovers come to connect and experiment.

As the founding director of AMOC, I meditated on what specifically would help create sustainability for artists. For individual artists who need a space to create new work, meet with clients and do focused work, we’ve created memberships that include amenities artists told us they dreamed of having. As we enter year three, we’re already seeing freelancers elevate their work and their business relationships  – the access to community and creative amenities continues to evolve to better support the needs of members ranging from local playwrights, copywriters, dancers and photographers to stylists and other types of creative producers – in a building that offers 2 performance spaces, a recording studio, kitchen, costume shop, visual arts studio, library, writer’s room, music practice room, dedicated desks and co-working space.

Along our journey in serving the Dallas artist community, we’ve also heard requests again and again for guidance and accountability, so in 2019 we are introducing coaching as part of our membership perks. Monthly workshops with our coaches and one on one sessions are available to all our members for free, helping artists and creative businesses align with and achieve their biggest dreams. The year’s workshop series kicks off with the Goal Getter workshop, which I’ll be leading as a robust starter program that ladders up to classes we have lined up for the rest of the year. Being a “Goal Getter” means finding your groove, defining and refining what you truly want out of the next year. Is it money? Creativity? Organization? Love? It all starts with a goal and I’m passionate about helping you - with this January class as our starting point!

For Dallas art lovers and local artists alike, we offer a book club designed for mindset-shifts that make your biggest creative dreams possible.

In 2019 on Saturday mornings, we’re gathering as a group to discuss “The Artist’s Way” by Julia Cameron -- wildly popular because the transformation it can spur in your life is truly magical. One recent participant worked at a corporate job that wasn’t offering her the creative outlet she craved; through this course she was able to manifest a new position that allowed her to pivot into her creative passion and now writes content fulltime for that employer. Another local artist wanted to get back into painting so through this course she developed new habits where each week she explored a new color -- she ate it, wore it, painted it and played with it. By the end of the course she had developed a brightly colorful art show at Arts Mission and manifested a personal invitation from an artist colony in Paris to live and work with them a few short weeks afterward.

We’re here to help you manifest the creative life of your dreams – I’d love to have you join us for a coaching class or workshop and share the magic that makes Arts Mission Oak Cliff a place where artists thrive and grow.
