Caitlyn danced professionally and taught yoga in NYC for about 8 years. A need to care for a hip injury and her mental health took her out of dance and yoga asana (physical yoga poses) for about 2 years. During this time, her body deconditioned and she realized how crazy all the stuff she had been doing to/with her body was. I say all of this because we are not going to put our feet behind our heads, kick into handstands, or do a million-billion chaturangas (push-ups) in these classes. In fact I have been known to not put ANY push ups in my classes. Curiosity and connection are my guiding principles. My classes use simplicity and repetition to allow people the space to get curious about how their bodies and brains work so that they can begin deeply connecting “the dots” in their own lives. “The dots” are different for everyone! They may be emotions, physical sensations, divine powers, body mechanics, moral principles, etc.

I can’t touch my toes. I am not flexible.

I have bad balance.

I can’t sit and meditate. I get too distracted.

I can’t do a push-up.

Yoga isn’t going to help me build muscle.

I am too out of shape.

I don’t want to wear those tight yoga clothes.

Yoga classes are too fast. I don’t know what is going on!
