Join us for 2024 Artist-in-Residence Nour Alkhatib’s culminating exhibit: "Connecting The Threads" exploring the evolution of Alkhatib's work through layers of sewn textiles, Palestinian embroidery, and playful nostalgic elements.
Nov 7-21 | by reservation only | free
Each piece in the exhibition reveals a step in the journey, tying past and present works together like threads in a fabric, with each project leading naturally to the next. Through these creations, witness the unfolding of Alkhatib's artistic narrative, where every stitch represents a time period and a story.
Alongside these personal pieces, the exhibition will feature a dedicated wall highlighting the works created by participants in the Tatreez workshops hosted during the residency. This collaborative gallery celebrates the rich tradition of Palestinian embroidery and the creative energy shared in the workshop space.

More about Artist-in-Residence, Nour Alkhatib
Nour Alkhatib an American-Palestinian interdisciplinary artist and clothing designer who was born and raised in Fort Worth, Texas, while also spending four years of her life in Jordan. Growing up in two different countries has influenced her work and given it a distinctive layered effect.
Alkhatib likes to approach her work in a non-traditional and free-flowing way, often using natural fibers and exaggerated silhouettes. Alkhatib’s experiences significantly influence Her work. She is heavily inspired by her Palestinian heritage as well as her childhood and the feeling of nostalgia As well as Issues of personal, family, and cultural identity and world building which continue to be at the heart of her work. Using traditional symbols and patterns, and non-traditional mediums to illustrate these ideas.
Alkhatib associates words like “armor” and “protection “when it comes to her garments. She believes in creating garments that make one feel protected and confident within. The exaggeration of shapes and sizes within her garments is her way of distorting her own image and her own personal catharsis. Alkhatib constantly aims to create things that make one feel protected and powerful.
Alkhatib's work frequently draws on cultural knowledge and intergenerational practices, and she invites members of her family and community into her process. Despite Alkhatib’s background in clothing, she sees herself as a multifaceted individual who finds beauty in many things, incorporating elements of cuteness and strength in her work while creating something timeless. Alkhatib tends to branch out into other works such as tatreez (An intricate form of Palestinian embroidery) and handmade bunny soft sculptures. Alkhatib’s goal is to seamlessly integrate the intricate art of ‘Tatreez’ into both her garments and bunny plushies, infusing each piece with a harmonious fusion of the traditional craftsmanship and contemporary design. She is constantly trying out new mediums which usually complement one another.
