Acting Technique II

This 5 session class is a continuation of our Acting Technique I class at The Playground Acting Program. This class covers a myriad of acting techniques, works on building the actors' confidence on and off the stage, and allows the student to continue to explore high-level acting techniques through monologue work with an introduction to scene work.
Develop Artistic Independence: Start taking ownership of your craft by becoming more self-reliant in your process.
Explore the Text's Role in Character Development: Dive deeper into how understanding the text can enhance your interpretation and portrayal of a character.
Learn How to Find Your Own Material: Gain skills in sourcing and selecting monologues and scenes that resonate with you and are acceptable for auditions.
Incorporate a Scene Partner: Begin practicing your monologue with a scene partner to engage in active listening, responding, and adapting to their choices.
Trust Your Instincts: Develop confidence in your own creative choices and instincts during performance.

About the Teaching Artist:
Deanna Ott
An actor, director, and arts educator, Deanna has been seen onstage in Broadway National Tours, in film and television, and at Tony Award-winning regional theatre companies nationwide. She teaches acting, voice and speech, movement, executive presence, and improvisation to students, professionals, and C-suite executives. Over the last five summer seasons, she has been a resident director in the theatre department at Camp Manitou in Maine.
Deanna is currently the Voice and Speech professor for Texas Christian University’s BFA Acting Program. Deanna recently directed the Off-Off-Broadway production of Do You Feel Anger? in collaboration with Alysia Giakoumas (Founder of The Playground). She has assistant directed at Friends Seminary in NYC, at SMU, and at CSUF. Deanna also coaches dialects and accents for professional clients, Oregon Cabaret Theatre, Southern Oregon University, and the Irving School District. She holds an MFA in Acting from SMU.
