The Gallery Opening: Journey the floorplan of grief with Dani in an immersive evening roaming The House built from listening, sharing, and experiencing through art and community conversation. Houseguests will have the opportunity to explore these stories and rooms clothed as galleries that heavily feature portraits, curated historical material, and written and performed evocations.
The Exhibition: By exploring the uniquely individual yet universal experience of loss and grief, Stories of Loss seeks to excavate comfort and eliminate otherness through vulnerability, visibility, and an anarchism of art forms. For two weeks, houseguests can peruse memory-evoking artifacts, experimental portraits, and written personal manifestations at their leisure while reflecting on the many layers of loss, and love as a means of letting go.
About the Artist
Dani (she/her) is a multi-passionate artist, educator, travel rat, and certified horse-girl homegrown in Texas. Her creative practice hinges on collaboration and community, spanning limitless mediums, and she considers herself a permanent student of the universe. She earned her Master of Fine Arts in Writing with an emphasis in Poetry and Playwriting from the School of the Art Institute of Chicago. An accomplished actor and playwright, her one-woman show, On Monsters Built from Bees and Bone, was first produced in 2018. Her graduate thesis and original Lady Gaga jukebox musical, Monster, included a fully conceptualized and co-produced album released in 2021. Her poetry and creative nonfiction, often urgent in nature and rooted in connectivity, fury, and the female-identifying experience, have been published nationally in several notable literary magazines. She often hosts local writing workshops and spoken-word events, and founded the community writing series, ARTeries.
In 2022, she co-founded her photography business, Boy Howdy Co. In 2023, she launched her Substack, Paper Bones, where you can follow her train of thought and world travels. Most importantly, she was mom to the best soul dog ever, Marty McFly, who’s premature death in June 2024 was the inspiration for her upcoming unearthing, Stories of Loss. @xdanimc | @boyhowdy.co
